Update From Yei

Heartbeat of the South

Sudan Update: September 2008

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It has been almost a year since our last visit to Maridi in South Sudan. At that time we visited the Primary Health Care Clinic in Yei and saw that it was up and running due to the excellent work of Poppy Spens, missionary from England. The next challenge is to obtain funding in order reproduce that Primary Health Care Clinic throughout South Sudan including the Maridi Diocese.

Many have met Bishop Justin and his wife Joyce at convention a few years ago. He made a great impression on many of us as we committed ourselves to continued support through the new initiative of HealthLine Sudan.

The latest news we have to report is that through Global Fund we have procured 2000 treated mosquito nets for distribution in the Diocese of Maridi. These will be delivered to Yei at the end of September and then transported to Maridi by truck. Once they arrive in Maridi they will be distributed by community health workers and people will be taught on how to use them correctly. Two thousand treated nets could potentially protect several thousand children. There will be additional requests for nets in the future.
