From our joint Albany-CMS Ireland Team in the Sudan:
'As our first full week in the Sudan draws to a close the team currently find themselves marooned in Yei. The breakdown of both Bishop Justin's pickup and the vehicle here at the Vocational Training Centre have meant our departure to Maridi has been delayed until the truck in Yei can be fixed. Hopefully the correct parts will arrive today and we will set off tomorrow for our second destination.
It has been an eventful seven days with much achieved and a great deal learnt. We have had the privilege of touring the various Diocesan health and education projects and have been involved most days in practical work at the centre. There have been trips to the local hospital and prison, a trip many of us feared was a one-way ticket for Isobel after her passionate discussion with the prison's Governor about 'women's rights' during lunch on Sunday.
We have all however, escaped unscathed by our adventures and remain for the most part in good health. During our time of sharing together last night we each highlighted how much we have enjoyed our time here in Yei and the strong bond of friendship that has developed within the team. We are really grateful for this and would like to acknowledge your prayers for this and ask that you would continue to pray that this would remain for the duration of the trip.'
Please pray also for the Vocational Training Centre here in Yei, for Billy and Jenny Smyth and for the Bishop of the diocese who between them face the most difficult challenges and carry the burden of so much of the great work we have seen.
This morning during our time of devotion we looked at the end of Paul's letter to the Ephesians where he asks them to continue to pray for him and remember his chains. Though we do not share the chains Paul speaks of there are things holding us back, the heat, the food, growing tiredness and so we ask that you might pray for us as we wrestle with these, that we may continue to show the love of Jesus to the people we encounter and grow in Him.
