Bishop Dave here again, to give you the latest. The Herzog's are now at Oxford, visiting our seminarian there, Bruce Mason and his wife Shay. Tomorrow, they will take the train up to Scotland where +Dan will assist with the Consecration of David Chillingworth. This weekend, they move on to Belfast.
Last Sunday, I visited Trinity, Church, Rensselaerville. They had a "sell out crowd," and the Community Choir came and provided a beautiful music ministry. I had the opportunity to renew acquaintance with Father Ray Donahue, who is assisting at Trinity, as well as at Christ Church, Greenville. Ray, who was ordained in 1954 (!), continues to live a full life. On Sundays, he gets up before the sun, milks his cows, leads two worship services, has a nap, and milks his cows again. Not bad! Deacon Clem Hulick continues to support Trinity as Parish Deacon.
On Monday night, we conducted the third of four regional healing services, with Nigel Mumford as preacher and leader of the Healing Ministry. Several hundred people filled Messiah Church, Glens Falls. In the two days since the service, I have had reports from several people that they indeed had experienced healing!! We praise our Lord every time anyone experiences the healing touch of Jesus.
I forgot to mention when I wrote last week, that Mary Ellen and I had an opportunity to visit Winter SonShine two weeks ago. Camp Chingachgook saw over almost two hundred teens spend the weekend, led by Chris Copeland, Tracey Parke, and a good experienced staff, as they grew in "Building Christian Community." It will be great next winter, when they invade our new Beaver Cross for Winter SonShine.
Speaking of Chris Copeland and our Diocesan Center Youth Ministry, I want to remind you of the upcoming Youth Ministry School, meeting at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center April 8-10. A fine "faculty" has been signed to do this training for youth leaders. Send yours! Everything youth leaders need to know, and more, will be offered. Cost is only $130 for overnights and $70 for commuters - maybe this can be funded from parish money so youth leaders don't have to foot the bill? Contact Chris or Tracey at 518-692-9550
How about the Lenten program offered each Wednesday evening at the Healing Ministry Center 7-8:30 p.m.? Tonight, Nigel Mumford will speak on the ministry of healing, and next week, Fr. Christopher Brown will address the issue of "Getting Beyond the Gospel of Inclusion."
Interested in some good leadership training? The Diocesan Cursillo Community is sponsoring an Episcopal Cursillo Leadership Workshop at Christ the King April 15-17. This will be a national event, with speakers coming from across the nation. Emphasis will be on how lay people can work cooperatively with clergy to bring about strong outreach in each parish. Clergy and lay people are both encouraged to come. Cost is $165, and well worth it! Don't miss this one. Contact Karen Konik, Registrar at 518-673-2029.
Our long-term missionary to Honduras, Joyce Lopez Mason, will be in the diocese May 12-26, and is available to present her mission work at any parish. Please contact our Diocesan Missions Committee Chairwoman, Mother Eileen Weglarz at to arrange a visit.
Stuffed to the gills with info?
I'll check with you next week. Pray for me. I am headed to the House of Bishops Meeting.
