Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Friday was the final wrap up for the new Beaver Cross. Bishop Dave celebrated the final Liturgy of the season to a packed house. We had 414 Campers and from their (and their families') reaction we're going to have a LOT MORE next summer. Chris Copeland and his staff did an outstanding job! The energy they expended (all appeared much thinner than when the season began!) was inspiring. The kids responded terrifically.
Two of the weeks, the Beaver Cross staff was supplemented with a Team from our sister Diocese of Down and Dromore in Ireland. They brought their own dynamism and enthusiasm as well as an obvious love of the Lord.
The young people especially enjoyed the ropes course, and the Zip Line (the longest in the northeast!) the canoeing and swimming, the activities and the crafts- all devoted to 'building community in Christ'"
Sunday Bishop Dave was at 4th Lake and I had the joy of celebrating the Eucharist for the 140th Anniversary of Saint Mary's Parish in Lake Luzerne. It continues to grow and prosper under Father Bill Love. We also dedicated the refurbished Sunday School area and new windows. In addition I had the delight of Instituting the 29th Chapter of the Daughters of the King in the diocese, this being the Divine Mercy Chapter.
In the afternoon we assembled under the threat of severe thunderstorms at St Mary's Convent for the dedication. Undeterred we had a magnificent outdoor Pontifical Mass with Bishop Ball joining Bp Dave and me, along with the priest-associates of the Community of St Mary. The Cathedral assisted with organist and singers, and musicians provided accompaniment for the beautiful singing. Father Christopher Brown preached a gifted sermon. Following the Liturgy, dinner was served in the Dining Room of the Welcome Center. Nuns from Maryland, Ontario, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin joined in the celebration. Friends of the Sisters from across the Northeast came for the weekend and to rejoice in their new beginnings.
On Monday I celebrated and preached in the Convent Chapel for the feast of Saint Mary the Virgin, patroness of the Community.
This coming Friday, Aug 19, is the first gathering of the New Priests' group for the coming year. We'll begin with a picnic at Noon at Christ the King SLC.

From Scott Garno, Senior seminarian at TESM:
"Sarah and I are happy to announce that we are expecting the birth of our second child in late March or early April. As you can imagine, after the death of our first child, Josiah, this pregnancy is both exciting and anxious. We covet all of your prayers for our child. We pray that the Lord will bless us with a happy and healthy baby. Sarah's first doctor’s appointment will be September 9th. At that time they will perform the first ultrasound along with a SLEW of other tests. We will keep you posted as more information becomes available."
Please keep Sarah and Scott and their unborn child in your prayers.
Thursday is a day off for Bp Dave and me.
LORD JESUS, thank you for the spiritual fruit that you are bearing in this diocese, for the Community of Saint Mary and their life of prayer and ministry; for the blessing poured out on our Young people at the new Beaver Cross; for those being transformed at the Healing Center; for the men and women you are raising up to serve you in the ministry of your Church; for the committed disciples in every parish. We submit ourselves to your most holy will, asking only for the joy of knowing that we serve You according to your purpose. Amen.
In Christ,
+ Dan
