Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The lovely warm days of upstate New York summer contrast dramatically with the suffering of our fellow Americans of the Gulf Coast. The images on television seem more from a science fiction film than the news channel.
I am asking every missionary outpost to offer special prayers this Sunday (and at midweek services) for those affected by the hurricane, both living and dead.
"Especially in times of . . . disaster" you may resort to The Supplication beginning on page 154 of the Prayer Book which commends itself for congregational use.
Please also invite parishioners to contribute to a special offering for hurricane relief. Checks can be sent to the Diocesan Office marked "Hurricane Katrina". The funds will be forwarded to Episcopal Relief in New York.
LORD JESUS, we commend to your mercy the victims of the hurricane; that you will grant relief to the homeless; strength to the medical and safety personnel; generosity to the nation; pardon and peace to the dead; and to your holy Church the empowerment to witness to your love. Amen.
The vision of the Diocese of Albany:
One Church
with many missionary outposts
organized around the Great Commandment and the Great Commission,
rooted in the catholic structures of Anglicanism,
moving from membership to discipleship,
and equipping every
disciple to make disciples.
