Albany Diocese Hurricane Relief Success Story

Dear Friends,

This is Bishop Dave giving you a summary of a very interesting connection one of our parishes has made with a parish in Mississippi, with the point being that you might want to get your parish involved in the same way.

Anne Morgan is a parishioner of St Luke the Physician in Saranac Lake. The Lord put it on her heart to use her gifts to help with Hurricane Katrina relief. She contacted the Diocese of Mississippi and asked if she could be of help. Through some good praying and talking, the Disaster Coordinator put her in touch with St. John's Church in Laurel, MS.

Entitled "Parish to Parish," this ministry developed into a success story. Anne got financial and material assistance from parishioners and community agencies/ individuals, amassed a truck load of supplies to help down there. A local furniture store lent her a truck, and she was off! A contingent of St Luke's people drove south, getting to Laurel last Saturday. While St. John's church itself was not damaged, the town suffered great damage. The people of St. John's, in addition to dealing with damage to their own homes, have been able to render assistance in the local community with foodstuffs, clothing, and household items. Anne's "supply truck" arrived at just the right time. On Sunday, Anne and her team worshiped with the St. John's people, sharing prayers together at the same time we all in the Diocese of Albany were conducting our own prayers for disaster victims and making our own financial offerings! God is good! This was practical spiritual and material help from one parish to another. Anne has found that she now has another truckload of supplies gathered, and so will be making one more trip to Laurel.
