Update from Bishop Dave...

First of all, let me offer a correction. I mentioned last week that Bishop Dan had visited Trinity, Granville. I was one town removed. He actually visited Trinity, Whitehall.

The new Rector of St. Eustace, Lake Placid has arrived. Father Mike Jones and his wife, Deacon Beverly Jones, moved up from Florida two weeks ago, just in time to enjoy the snowstorm/blizzard! Welcome to the North Country!

Last Thursday, some fifty people gathered in the Healing Ministry Center Chapel to begin a six month covenant of prayer for revival and renewal. It was a wonderful time of prayer. Each participant has agreed to pray each day for the parish, the Church, and the world. If you would like to be part of this prayer covenant team, begin praying each day and come to the worship service at Christ the King each first Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Our worship leader is Deacon (soon to be Father) Nigel Mumford.

Many parishes have Services of Lessons and Carols during this time of year, and they are all beautiful gifts to God and to the surrounding communities. But Christ Church, Ballston Spa is inviting us all to a special service next week - Monday and Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. "Lessons and Carols," a C.D. of little known, haunting folk carols for Advent and Christmas, will be released. Professional performances will be by John Kirk, Trish Miller, and guest Brooks Williams.

Each year, Bishop Dan and I host a meeting for those interested in Holy Orders. This year's meeting will be Sunday, January 8, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Library at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center. If you or one of your parishioners has a call to the ministry of the Diaconate or Priesthood, place come. This is not for those already in the ordained ministry process; it is for those who are just discerning a call. Please contact Canon Bob Haskell, Chairman of the Commission On Ministry - rhaskell2@nycap.rr.com

Also, if you or someone you know is a college or high school student and is discerning a call to ordained ministry, we invite these young people to a dinner in their honor. It will be Tuesday, January 3, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Welcome Center of Christ the King. RSVP this dinner invitation to Bob Haskell.

And last but not least: Over one hundred of us attended a magnificent dinner last night at the CTK Welcome Center. All those who have made a pledge to constructing Christ the King were invited to the Appreciation Dinner on Saint Nicholas Day. We started with Evensong, enjoyed a gourmet dinner, and ended with a visit from Saint Nick! If you have made a pledge to the Center, but were not on the list, contact us immediately and we will include you. And if you have not been able to make a pledge but have made cash donations to the Center, a special thank you! Saint Nicholas's generous spirit is strong in the Diocese of Albany. Your own commitment to Christ and your generous spirit make this diocese a beacon of light to the world around us. Thank you. And it is not too late for you to make a pledge to Christ the King. The Growth the Vision Campaign is going on as we speak. Call the office to obtain a pledge card - 518-692-9550; ask for the Grow the Vision Office.

May your Advent preparation bring you inner peace and joy as we await the remembrance of the birth of God Incarnate - Jesus.

Bishop Dave
