Saint Dunstan of Canterbury
May 19th, 2006
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Last night returned from Nashotah House. Delighted to find two of my grandsons at the house.
Today attended the burial liturgy for Pat Marshall's mom, Frances, at the Cathedral. Celebrated the Noon Mass. Paperwork... Tomorrow, Diocesan Council. Bishop Dave in Va for a wedding.
Last Saturday, Bishop Dave's presentation for the School for Apostolic Action drew over five dozen adults. People welcome practical help in sharing their faith in Jesus Christ. Last Sunday I administered Confirmation in Westminster, Md., at the invitation of the bishop. Ascension parish was filled (3rd liturgy of the day) and demonstrated a spiritual vitality that would be the envy of many. The rector, Fr Ron Fisher, was an undergrad at RPI, Troy.
Tonight begins the Healing Conference led by Fr Nigel Mumford. Last minute reservations can be made by calling 518-692-9550. Cost, including meals, is $49. Walk-ins welcome.
This Sunday Bp Dave will be at Delmar and I'll be at Delhi.
Monday night is the pre-convention gathering at 7pm at Christ Church, Cooperstown. Tuesday evening is the one for the North Country at St Mark's, Malone and Wed evening, same time, at the Cathedral.
Wednesday is also the spring gathering of the Retired Clergy and widow(er)s at Christ the King, including Mass and lunch. The Trustees will meet in the morning. Lots of driving coming up this week.
Thursday May 25, is Ascension Day, a Principal Feast in the Prayer Book, for which every parish should have the Liturgy at their church.
The diocesan offices will be closed on Memorial Day, May 29.
The newest chapter of the Daughters of the King will be established at Trinity Church, Watervliet, at 7:30pm on Wednesday evening May 31, the feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Convention registrations already exceed 725. Parish Clergy can print out some forms for anyone who does not have internet access.
Ordinations
Deacon Ted Welty will be ordained to the Priesthood at 11:00 on Saturday, June 3, at the Chapel of Saint Mary's Convent, at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center. Clergy: red stoles. He will continue in his ministry of administration at Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary.
The 2006 class of Deacons will be ordained at a solemn liturgy at the Convention at Camp-of-the-Woods, Saturday, June 10, at 3:30pm. Clergy: Because it is the eve of Trinity, the color this year will be white. The Preacher for the Ordination Mass will be Bishop Harold Miller.
PENTECOST CONFIRMATIONS will be held at 4pm on Sunday, June 4, the Day of Pentecost. Parish clergy should send the names of the confirmands by next Friday, May 26 (so that Confirmation Certificates can be prepared in advance) to Canon Jerry Carroll jcarroll@albanydiocese.org. For those who wish to remain for dinner, please see the PDU Addendum of May 11.
The article by Father Christopher Brown that appeared in The Albany Episcopalian is gaining circulation across North America. Here is the most recent appearance (in Canada) http://www.christianity.ca/faith/faith-and-thought/2006/05.000.html. Any easy way to circulate it to your friends.
LORD JESUS, in your vast love the Trinity has chosen to call us to eternal life in that eternal Communion of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and for which you became Man, that through you we might have access to that Trinitarian life: give us such desire and so fill us with your grace that we may choose to live for you and with you for ever. Amen.
In Christ,
+ Dan
