Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The Day of Pentecost arrived fresh on last week’s act of arson against Christ Church, Pottersville as an undeterred congregation gathered under tents in front of the burned out structure. Over 175 overflowed outside the tents as the rain ceased about half an hour before Mass began. The brass band from Newcomb (St. Barbara’s) brought vigor to the singing assembly. Father Limpert baptized a new Christian and the whole group reaffirmed our baptismal vows to have Christ Jesus as Savior and Lord. Jack Watson, the parish churchwarden, expressed gratitude for the many acts of kindness from neighbors, authorities and other Christian communities.

We also prayed for the arsonists, that God would forgive them and bring them back to lives of love. Plans for a new and expanded parish center are already being considered.

Extensive TV coverage (4 outlets) and newspapers gave great coverage to the witness of the parish and missions. Five other priests concelebrated the Eucharist, Fr Limpert, Fr Pressley, Fr Webber and Fr Sowan.

On Friday night at the Diocesan Convention a special offering will be received, designated for the rebuilding of Christ Church.

Father Shaw Mudge, left and Bishop Herzog with priests as procession begins. In the afternoon what we originally thought would be about 75 turned out to be nearly 250 for Confirmation at Christ the King. Forty candidates were presented and a dozen clergy concelebrated the Liturgy of Pentecost. The offering to be split with Christ Church, Pottersville was over $1400. Congratulations to these newest disciples in this part of Christ’s kingdom.Bishop Herzog during Confirmation service, June 4, 2006, Christ the King Chapel.

It didn’t take long to fall asleep last night.

Saturday morning in the Convent Chapel of Saint Mary, I ordained Father Ted Welty to the priesthood. Among the participants were faculty and board members from Nashotah House where Fr Welty serves as an administrator. Mother Miriam and the Sisters provided great spiritual hospitality. Special thanks to Dean Vang who was MC, and to Father Love who assisted.

Today I am trying to wrap up my convention address working out of the house.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 6 (and as the media is reminding us 6-6-6) is the monthly Eucharistic Holy Hour which begins at Noon in the Healing Chapel at Christ the King SLC. Lunch follows. The Holy Hour is open to lay persons as well as clergy.

The regular Tuesday Service of Healing is permanently relocated to the main Chapel of Christ the King because of the increased attendance. The Healing Service begins at 10 a.m.

On Mon, Wed, Thurs and Friday the Eucharist is celebrated in the main chapel at 11:30 and is open to all.

The Diocesan Convention at Camp of the Woods begins with a series of workshops on Friday, continuing to Saturday and Sunday, with over 70 offerings.

Please keep in your daily prayers those to be ordained Deacon this Saturday. Congratulations to them, to their families.

LORD JESUS, we ask you to renew us this Whitsun Monday for the service of the Gospel; strengthen all in this Diocese and especially Christ Church (Pottersville) as we stand openly before the world in our love for You. Bless the clergy and people assembling at Camp of the Woods this week; bless and empower the Ordinands for ministry; bless our youth; give safe passage to our brothers and sisters from Ireland and Malawi; let this gathering be a season of healing, restoration and empowerment. Amen

In Christ,
+ Dan
