Blessed John Mason Neale
August 7th, 2006

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today is the feast of Blessed John Mason Neale. He was a vigorous renewer of the English Church in his day, despite opposition from the bishop, and an early death at the age of 46. He founded the Sisters of St Margaret (nearest convent: New Hartford). He also utilized an amazing system to bring into the present some of the vast repository of hymns and writings: he trained each of his daughters in a variety of ancient languages; they were able to do first drafts of the material into English. He died in 1866.

Every local Missionary Outpost can receive direct support by taking part in the Christian Ed Conference held for 1-day at Christ the King SLC on Saturday, August 26. Deacon Laurie has enlisted a top-flight team to develop and present materials that will help your parish.

Please pray for the leader involved: Holly Schubert, Patti Gibbons, Kathleen Trees, Kim Harding, Katie Tobler, Stephanie Mojallali, Fr. John Bassett, Fr. Bill Hinrichs, Mother Ellen Neufeld & Deacon Laurie.

Please pray for Shirley Parker, our energized resident full time volunteer who fell 8 days ago and required 57 stitches to her head. She was on duty Saturday morning! Jack said that despite the immensity of the accident she was still able to give direction.

The summer Couples Cursillo will be held August 24 - 27 at Christ the King. Information for married couples to register can be reached at http://timesunion.com/communities/cursillo/ This is a splendid opportunities for couples to deepen their life in Christ together.

- from Mother Miriam and the Sisters:

The Sisters of St. Mary invite our friends in the Diocese to an Open House on Sunday, August 13, 2006, beginning with music from our African Sisters and cold refreshments on the lawn at 3:30PM. The Sisters are celebrating St. Mary's Feast and the first anniversary of the Convent's dedication. All are welcome to visit the Sisters and get to know more about what goes on at the convent. Come see their antique artworks, silk embroidered vestments, cashmere herd, honey kitchen, and see sustainable farm techniques that work both here and at their mission house in Malawi, south central Africa. The afternoon activities will conclude with sung evening prayers and a barbecue picnic. Please call 518-692-3028 to let the Sisters know you are coming. Suggested donation for the barbecue: $15 per person

In Christ,
Bishop Dan

Lord Jesus, we ask you to refresh us with the warmth of your Holy Spirit, that our heart and heads may be fully disposed to accomplish your holy will. Give us a confidence in the truth and power of the Scriptures, in the Communion of Saints, and the call to life everlasting. Amen.
