Update from Bishop Dave

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We were sorry to hear the news that Father George Easter's wife, Peggy, died last weekend. The Memorial Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) at Trinity Church, Plattsburgh. Clergy are invited to process and vest in alb and white stole. I will be there representing Bishop Herzog as Celebrant. "Rest eternal grant unto her, O Lord."

Bishop Love is at Nashotah House in Wisconsin this week, where he has recently been named a Trustee.

Last Sunday, I did a visitation at Christ Church, Ballston Spa, where I was privileged to bless and dedicate their new Welcome Center and Prayer Chapel. The Welcome Center is a connector between the church and the parish house. It will also become the main entrance to the church, will always be open for those who wish to come in and pray, and will be the place newcomers are greeted and welcomed. Stop by and check it out. The parish is thriving - looked to me like well over two hundred at the two morning services. Rector Derik Roy and his ordained and lay team of leaders are holding Jesus high to be adored and praised.

Speaking of holding Jesus high to be praised, the Women's Cursillo kicks off this Thursday night with over thirty Candidates. That is one of the largest Cursillo groups in my memory. Let's be in prayer for them as they make their Cursillo ("Little Course" - in Christianity), and learn more about leadership in the Church.

Also happening this weekend: "Walk Through the Bible" for the North Country. This extremely successful one-day course helps us become biblically literate in an entertaining and fun way. It will be held at Trinity Church, Potsdam. Contact Deacon Laurie Garramone-Rohr (lgrohr@albanydiocese.org) and sign up. Still a few spots left.

Next Thursday and Friday, November 2 & 3, the clergy and their spouses gather for the Annual Clergy Conference. Our conference speaker will be Bishop Ed Salmon, Bishop of South Carolina. Ed is a respected leader in the Church today, and has been most effective in guiding both Anglican Communion Network and Windsor Compliant bishops (of which the bishops of Albany are both) in prayerfully plotting a course toward upholding the historic teachings of the Church. Please pray for us as we listen to his presentations and look toward the future of the Diocese of Albany.

In line with that conference, Bishop Salmon will stay through Saturday and speak to the laity of the diocese and any clergy who were not able to attend the clergy conference. Registration is at 9 a.m., and the day includes lunch together. We would like to have a high turnout for this Diocesan Conference Day. We have major decisions to consider in the months ahead. Coming to Ed's presentations will help us think clearly about our options. Cost of the Conference is free, and lunch is available for $8. Please bring vans of your people to this conference, and have a say in our future!

And lastly, please remember the Regional Confirmation scheduled for Sunday, November 5, 4 p.m., at All Saints Cathedral, Bishop Love preaching. Clergy, please email Ray Rockwell (rrockwell@albanydiocese.org) and copy Jerry Carroll (jcarroll@albanydiocese.org) with the names of those who will be confirmed, received, and those renewing Baptismal Vows. Those being confirmed, received and reaffirming their vows are asked to be at the Cathedral one hour early, at 3 p.m. Clergy are asked to vest in albs and red stoles.

So that's it for this week. May God bless you richly as you minister in His name.
