Update from Bishop Bill
In honor of Bishop Dan and Bishop Dave, both of whom have announced that they plan to retire on January 31st, 2007, I invite each member of our Diocesan Family to join in a special celebration of their ministry. Due to the close proximity of the bishops’ retirement to our regularly scheduled Parish Leadership Conferences, we have decided to combine the two events.
I have asked Bishop Dan and Bishop Dave if they would be the guest speakers at this year’s Parish Leadership Conference, entitled: “Reflecting on Sixty-Nine Years of Ordained Ministry As Deacon, Priest & Bishop -- Lessons Learned, by Bishop Dan Herzog & Bishop Dave Bena.”
In addition to the Bishops having a chance to reflect and share with us the highlights of their ministries and lessons learned, we will also have a chance to share with both Bishops as well as Carol and Mary Ellen, our appreciation and gratitude for their ministry and friendship. There will also be a worship service and meal together.
For the convenience of everyone in the Diocese, four different dates have been set in three different locations throughout the Diocese:
The exact location on the 13th and 28th as well as other details will be coming out soon. If you are unable to attend on the date scheduled for your area, feel free to attend one of the other celebrations.
If you have any thoughts or ideas of special ways that we might honor Bishop Dan and Bishop Dave, please contact Fr. Bob Haskell or Jerry Carroll.
This should be a wonderful celebration, please plan to join us.
Other News:
The Deacon’s Retreat is this weekend. Deacons, if you are planning to come, but haven’t signed up yet, please do so. We would love to have you.
The Women’s Advent Retreat is Dec. 1-3, register online here.
This year’s Priest Retreat is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 12 through Friday Dec. 15th. Bishop Bill Frey will be the retreat leader. I encourage and invite all priests to come if possible. Register online here.
Please continue to keep Mother Geri Bissell-Thompson in your prayers. Mother Geri came through her surgery well and is back home recovering.
Your prayers are also asked for Fr. William J. Matthers, long time rector of Zion Church, Morris (retired). He is in the hospital with lymphoma.
Bishop Dave and I both had great parish visits this past Sunday: Bishop Dave at St. John the Evangelist, Stockport; and Bishop Bill at St. Paul’s, Keeseville.
Have a great week!
Yours in Christ,
+Bill
