Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Parish Leaderships Conferences. Come and see what church growth and revitalization principles are illustrated by video clips from Denethor II (Steward of Gondor), Talladega Nights, Diary of a Black Woman, and Lawrence of Arabia. We are blessed to have Fr Jay Slocum as our guest presenter. He is from the Hudson River Valley (Town of Beekman) and a successful proven church planter who is currently working to establish a new plant in Pittsburgh’s East End. We’ll let him tell you more.

Friday, February 1 at St Paul’s, Albany beginning with registration at 5 PM and worship at 5:30. We will wrap up at 9:30. This is open to all parishes, but will be directed towards our larger parishes. A buffet dinner will be served so advance registration by January 28 is necessary.

Saturday, February 2 at Hartwick College, Oneonta beginning with registration at 8:30 AM and worship at 9:05. We’ll wrap up by 4PM. Lunch will be in Hartwick’s Food Court. Registration is due by January 30.

Haiti Short Term Mission Trip April 16-24, 2008. An organizational meeting will be held Sunday, Jan 20, 11:15am at St. John’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 146 First Street, Troy 12180. This meeting includes a presentation on the October 2007 trip and a preliminary outline of the April trip (medical mission and water system improvement). Applications for this trip will also be available. This trip involves some harsh conditions and only adults will be considered. Anticipated expenses are $1,200 per person including all transportation (air, truck, etc.), lodging, and all meals. For more details, please contact Linda Stevens, Mission Coordinator.

World Mission Sunday - February 3. The Mission Board is asking all churches in the Diocese to observe this event. We have a number of parishes involved with short term mission trips to Bolivia, Dominican Republic, Haiti, and our Diocese trips and support of work in Sudan. How is your church called to support missionary work? Please pray for our people to have hearts for mission. Parishes should have received a packet containing a poster and other information from the Episcopal Church to use in promoting World Mission Sunday. Waiting for Jesus: A Lenten Agape Retreat – March 1. This one day Lenten Retreat of will be a feast of prayer and reflection where we will look at elements of the Passover Seder and spend time dwelling with the Spirit in prayer. The retreat will be held Saturday, March 1 from 9 – 4 at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center in the Barry House Theological Library. This is a date change from the previous Diocesan Update Addendum. Cost is $25 per person and includes meals and material.
